Jay-Z joined Beyoncé on the 2003 hit single “03 Bonnie & Clyde.”
The song was released in October 2002 as the lead single from Jay-Z’s seventh studio album, The Blueprint 2: The Gift & the Curse. Beyoncé appears as the featured vocalist, making the track an early high-profile collaboration between the two artists.
Its title references Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, the famous American criminal couple of the 1930s. The song uses the pair’s image as a metaphor for romantic loyalty and partnership rather than presenting a historical account of their crimes.
“03 Bonnie & Clyde” predates Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s marriage in 2008. It is also distinct from “Crazy in Love,” which became Beyoncé’s first solo Hot 100 number-one single and again featured Jay-Z. Both collaborations helped establish their public musical partnership.
