Solange Knowles is Beyoncé’s younger sister and the artist behind A Seat at the Table.
Solange Piaget Knowles was born on June 24, 1986, in Houston, Texas, nearly five years after Beyoncé. She began performing publicly as a teenager and later developed a musical identity distinct from her sister’s mainstream pop and R&B career.
A Seat at the Table, Solange’s third studio album, was released in 2016. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and includes the songs “Cranes in the Sky” and “Don’t Touch My Hair.” The album explores Black identity, self-worth, family history, and social pressure.
Solange and Beyoncé have occasionally collaborated or appeared together, but they are separate recording artists with different discographies. Their mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson, is a fashion designer and entrepreneur who helped shape both daughters’ early public careers.
