Jay-Z collaborated with Beyoncé on “Crazy in Love,” her 2003 breakthrough solo single.
The song was built around a prominent horn sample from the Chi-Lites’ 1970 recording “Are You My Woman (Tell Me So).” Beyoncé sings the main sections, while Jay-Z contributes a rap verse that appears near the beginning of the track. Their pairing helped make the single both a pop hit and a landmark R&B record.
“Crazy in Love” became Beyoncé’s first solo number-one single on the US Billboard Hot 100. It also led her debut album, Dangerously in Love, and became closely associated with the start of her solo career.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z later married in 2008 and collaborated on additional recordings. Their personal relationship is separate from the song’s release, which came several years earlier.
