Which Sikh text contains the daily morning prayer known as Japji Sahib?

The story behind the answer

Guru Granth Sahib contains the daily morning prayer known as Japji Sahib.

Japji Sahib is attributed to Guru Nanak and appears at the beginning of Guru Granth Sahib, before the main sequence of hymns. It opens with the Mul Mantar, the foundational Sikh statement beginning with Ik Onkar.

The prayer consists of an opening section followed by 38 pauris, or stanzas, and a concluding salok. It explores themes such as divine order, truthful living, humility, remembrance, and spiritual discipline.

Japji Sahib is recited in the morning as part of the Sikh Nitnem, or daily prayer routine. It should not be confused with the entire Guru Granth Sahib: Japji Sahib is one composition within the scripture, while Nitnem also includes other prayers from different Sikh texts.
