In which year was the Adi Granth first installed at the Harmandir Sahib?

The story behind the answer

The Adi Granth was first installed at the Harmandir Sahib in 1604.

Guru Arjan compiled the Adi Granth, bringing together hymns by the Sikh Gurus and devotional compositions by selected Hindu and Muslim saints. The completed scripture was ceremonially installed at the Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar in 1604, with Bhai Gurdas serving as its scribe and Baba Buddha appointed as the first granthi, or scripture reader.

The Adi Granth was later expanded by Guru Gobind Singh to include the hymns of Guru Tegh Bahadur. This expanded recension became the Guru Granth Sahib. In 1708, Guru Gobind Singh declared the scripture the eternal Guru of the Sikhs.

The dates 1604, 1699, and 1708 are often confused. The year 1699 marks the founding of the Khalsa, while 1708 marks the transfer of Guruship to the scripture. The earlier date, 1604, concerns the first installation of the Adi Granth.
