Which Sikh military leader defeated the Mughal forces at the Battle of Sirhind in 1710?

The story behind the answer

Banda Singh Bahadur defeated Mughal forces at the Battle of Sirhind in 1710.

Banda Singh Bahadur was a Sikh military commander who led a major campaign in Punjab after meeting Guru Gobind Singh. In May 1710, his forces defeated the Mughal governor Wazir Khan at the Battle of Chappar Chiri, near Sirhind. Sirhind was then captured.

The victory had particular importance in Sikh memory because Wazir Khan was associated with the execution of Guru Gobind Singh’s two younger sons, Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh, at Sirhind. Banda Singh’s campaign therefore combined military, political, and retaliatory significance.

Banda Singh established his headquarters at Lohgarh and introduced administrative and land measures in territories under his control. Mughal forces eventually captured him, and he was executed at Delhi in 1716. He is remembered as one of the earliest major Sikh leaders after the Gurus.
