Which Sikh leader captured Sirhind in 1710 after defeating its Mughal governor?

The Sikh leader who captured Sirhind in 1710 after defeating its Mughal governor was Banda Singh Bahadur.

Banda Singh Bahadur, originally known as Lachman Dev and later Madho Das Bairagi, met Guru Gobind Singh at Nanded in 1708. The Guru tasked him with leading the Sikh struggle in Punjab. Banda Singh gathered forces, defeated Mughal authorities, and captured Sirhind in 1710.

Sirhind held special importance for Sikhs because its governor, Wazir Khan, was associated with the execution of Guru Gobind Singh’s young sons, Sahibzadas Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh. Banda Singh’s victory therefore carried both military and symbolic significance.

His administration is remembered for challenging established landholding patterns and issuing coins and seals in the name of Sikh authority. Mughal forces eventually captured and executed him at Delhi in 1716. He should not be confused with Maharaja Ranjit Singh, who built the Sikh Empire later.
