Which Sikh Guru was the third human Guru of Sikhism?

The story behind the answer

Guru Amar Das was the third human Guru of Sikhism.

Born in 1479, Amar Das became a disciple of Guru Angad in 1539 after years of searching for spiritual guidance. Guru Angad appointed him successor in 1552, when Amar Das was already in his seventies.

He strengthened Sikh institutions by organizing missionary districts called manjis and promoted the practice of communal meals. Visitors seeking an audience were traditionally expected to share langar before meeting him, emphasizing equality across social divisions.

Guru Amar Das was succeeded by his son-in-law, Guru Ram Das, in 1574. He is sometimes confused with Guru Ram Das because both developed important Sikh centers and were closely related through family and succession.
