Which Sikh Guru is associated with the composition of the Anand Sahib?
Answer
Guru Amar Das
Answer
Guru Amar Das
Guru Amar Das is associated with the composition of the Anand Sahib. The third Sikh Guru composed this devotional work, whose title means “Song of Bliss” or “Hymn of Bliss.”
Anand Sahib appears in the Guru Granth Sahib and is widely used in Sikh worship and ceremonies. The complete composition contains 40 pauris. A shorter version, consisting of the first five pauris and the fortieth pauri, is commonly recited at the conclusion of many Sikh religious gatherings and life-cycle ceremonies.
The Anand Karaj, the Sikh marriage ceremony, takes its name from the same word but is not identical to Anand Sahib. Anand Sahib is the hymn; Anand Karaj is the marriage rite. Guru Amar Das’s composition is therefore the specific answer when asking about the author of the Sikh “Song of Bliss.”
