Which Sikh Guru established the town of Paonta Sahib in 1685?
Answer
Guru Gobind Singh
Answer
Guru Gobind Singh
Guru Gobind Singh established the town of Paonta Sahib in 1685.
Paonta Sahib lies on the banks of the Yamuna River in present-day Himachal Pradesh. Guru Gobind Singh founded the settlement after accepting an invitation from Medini Prakash, the ruler of Sirmaur. The Guru lived there for several years and developed a significant center of Sikh literary and military activity.
The town is associated with the composition and compilation of important works in the Dasam tradition. It is also remembered for the Battle of Bhangani, fought nearby in 1688, during Guru Gobind Singh’s period at Paonta Sahib.
Paonta Sahib is now an important pilgrimage destination. Its main shrine, Takht Sri Paonta Sahib, commemorates the Guru’s residence and the community that formed around him. It should not be confused with Anandpur Sahib, the town where Guru Gobind Singh later established the Khalsa in 1699.
