Which sequel series follows Avatar: The Last Airbender?

The story behind the answer

The sequel series to Avatar: The Last Airbender is The Legend of Korra.

The series follows Korra, the Avatar who succeeds Aang. Unlike Aang, Korra is born in the Southern Water Tribe and begins the story already able to bend water, earth, and fire. She travels to Republic City to learn airbending and confronts political, spiritual, and social conflicts in a rapidly modernizing world.

The Legend of Korra takes place about 70 years after the original series. During that time, Aang and his allies helped establish the United Republic of Nations, whose capital, Republic City, becomes the sequel's central setting. The show expands the world with radio, automobiles, pro-bending, industrial technology, and new interpretations of the Avatar's spiritual role.

The series premiered on Nickelodeon in 2012 and ran for four seasons and 52 episodes, concluding in 2014. The Rise of Kyoshi is a novel, while Voltron: Legendary Defender and The Dragon Prince are unrelated animated franchises.
