Which Scottish whisky distillery produces Glenfiddich, one of the world’s best-selling single malts?

The story behind the answer

Glenfiddich is produced at Glenfiddich distillery in Dufftown, in Scotland’s Speyside whisky region.

William Grant founded the distillery in 1886, and members of his family built much of the original operation by hand. Production began on Christmas Day in 1887. The distillery takes its name from the Gaelic words meaning “Valley of the Deer,” reflected in its stag emblem.

Glenfiddich is a single malt Scotch whisky, meaning it is made at one distillery from malted barley. It is not the same as a blended malt, which combines single malts from multiple distilleries.

The nearby Balvenie distillery is also owned by William Grant & Sons, which can cause confusion, but it produces a separate single malt brand. Glenfiddich’s green triangular bottle is one of the most recognizable packages in the whisky industry.
