The Scottish band Bis performed the opening theme song for the original The Powerpuff Girls series.
Bis recorded the energetic theme used for the Cartoon Network series created by Craig McCracken. The song’s bright, fast-paced sound matched the show’s comic-book style and helped establish its distinctive opening sequence.
Bis formed in Glasgow in 1994 and became associated with the alternative-pop and indie scenes. The band’s involvement is sometimes confused with the separate artists who contributed songs to The Powerpuff Girls Movie, including major-label performers on its soundtrack.
The original series used a short animated opening built around the girls’ creation and their mission to fight crime. Its music is therefore different from the film’s theme song, “The Powerpuff Girls (End Theme),” which was associated with Lazlo Bane.
