Which Romanian range contains Moldoveanu Peak, the country's highest point?

Moldoveanu Peak is contained within Romania’s Făgăraș Mountains, the country’s highest mountain range.

Moldoveanu rises to about 2,544–2,545 metres in the Southern Carpathians, making it Romania’s highest point. The peak is located in Argeș County, along the range’s rugged central crest, and is commonly approached via Viștea Mare, a neighbouring summit standing at about 2,527 metres.

The Făgăraș Mountains are the highest mountains of the Southern Carpathians. They are known for steep ridges, glacial valleys and high mountain lakes, including Lake Bâlea. The Transfăgărășan road crosses the range and provides one of the best-known access routes, although it is generally closed during much of the snowy season.

Moldoveanu is sometimes confused with Negoiu, the second-highest peak in Romania, or with the Bucegi Mountains, another popular Carpathian destination. The nearest major cities include Sibiu and Brașov, while the town of Victoria is a common starting point for northern approaches.
