Which Rocky franchise video game was released in 1983? Rocky Super Action Boxing.
Coleco developed and published Rocky Super Action Boxing for the ColecoVision console. It was the first licensed video game based on the Rocky franchise and drew much of its identity from Rocky III, including its playable boxers: Rocky Balboa and Clubber Lang.
The game was built around boxing rather than a cinematic story. Players could fight the computer or compete head-to-head, choosing attacks to the head or body, blocks, and ducks. Matches could last two, five, ten, or fifteen one-minute rounds, depending on the selected skill level.
A common mix-up is confusing it with later Rocky games. Rocky was released in 1987 and covered the first four films, while Rocky, released in 2002, drew from the first five. Rocky Legends followed in 2004. Creed: Rise to Glory is much newer and belongs to the Creed spin-off era, not the early ColecoVision period.
