Which record label released The Doors' debut single?
Answer
Elektra Records
Answer
Elektra Records
The Doors’ debut single was released by Elektra Records. “Break On Through (To the Other Side)” was issued as the band’s first single on January 1, 1967, with “End of the Night” as its B-side.
The song was also the opening track of The Doors’ self-titled debut album. Produced by Paul A. Rothchild, it introduced the group’s unusual blend of rock, psychedelic music, jazz-informed drumming, and bossa nova influences to record buyers.
The single did not become an immediate commercial success in the United States, reaching only number 126. Despite that modest chart result, “Break On Through” quickly became a concert staple and helped establish the band’s identity before later releases such as “Light My Fire” made them famous.
A common mix-up is to name the label of a later Doors release or another major 1960s rock label. Elektra, founded by Jac Holzman, signed The Doors in August 1966 after Holzman saw them perform at the Whisky a Go Go. The band remained closely associated with the label throughout its classic period.
