What was The Doors' first live album, released in 1970?
Answer
Absolutely Live
Answer
Absolutely Live
The Doors’ first live album, released in 1970, was Absolutely Live.
Elektra Records issued Absolutely Live on July 20, 1970, as a double album. It assembled performances recorded at several concerts from 1969 and 1970, including shows at New York’s Felt Forum and the Aquarius Theatre in Hollywood.
Producer Paul A. Rothchild edited recordings from different venues to create the impression of one cohesive concert. Most tracks came from the Doors’ January 17–18, 1970, Felt Forum performances, but the album was not a single-show document. Its lengthy, carefully assembled running order helped capture the band’s unpredictable stage presence.
The album is especially notable for presenting “Celebration of the Lizard” in full for the first time on an official Doors release. Later live collections included Live at the Hollywood Bowl, released in 1987, and the 1991 compilation In Concert, which combined several earlier live albums.
