Which Doors album was their only number-one album on the Billboard 200?
Answer
Waiting for the Sun
Answer
Waiting for the Sun
The Doors’ only number-one album on the Billboard 200 was Waiting for the Sun.
Released by Elektra on 3 July 1968, Waiting for the Sun was the band’s third studio album. It topped the Billboard 200 for four weeks, making it their sole album to reach number one on that chart. The record also included “Hello, I Love You,” the group’s second US number-one single.
The album was recorded between November 1967 and May 1968, largely at TTG Studios in Los Angeles. It marked a period when The Doors were expanding beyond the darker, extended performances associated with their early club repertoire, although the album’s production and Jim Morrison’s vocals retained the band’s psychedelic identity.
Listeners sometimes assume L.A. Woman or Morrison Hotel was the group’s top album because both are highly regarded and arrived later. In chart terms, however, neither matched Waiting for the Sun’s peak. The Doors’ debut reached number two, while Waiting for the Sun alone occupied the Billboard summit.
