Coventry City were scheduled to visit Arsenal in the 2026–27 Premier League opener.
The match was set for Friday 21 August 2026 at Emirates Stadium, with Arsenal hosting at 20:00 BST. Coventry’s away trip made them the first newly promoted club to appear in the new Premier League season.
Coventry returned to the top flight after an absence of 25 years. Their promotion placed them alongside Ipswich Town and Hull City as the three clubs entering the division from the Championship for 2026–27.
Arsenal were the defending champions, so the opening fixture combined a title defence with a major promotion milestone. The matchup also meant the first game of the season featured a London home side against a club from the West Midlands.
