Ipswich Town scored twice against Sunderland in the 2026–27 Premier League opening round.
Ipswich won the match 2–1 at Portman Road on Saturday 22 August 2026. The two goals were enough to secure three points in the club’s return to the Premier League after a one-year absence.
The result formed part of an unusual opening round in which all three promoted clubs won. Coventry City lost 3–0 to Arsenal, but Hull City defeated Manchester United 2–0 and Ipswich overcame Sunderland 2–1. Thus, Ipswich was the promoted side that scored twice in a victory.
Sunderland’s goal prevented Ipswich from keeping a clean sheet, but it did not change the outcome. Ipswich’s two goals also contributed to the 30-goal aggregate across the complete opening round.
