Promoted Hull City recorded a 2–0 home victory over Manchester United in the 2026–27 Premier League opening round.
Hull beat Manchester United at the MKM Stadium on 22 August 2026. The result gave Hull three points without conceding and immediately highlighted the competitive challenge awaiting established clubs in the new campaign.
Hull had earned promotion from the Championship through the 2025–26 play-offs. Their return ended a nine-year absence from the Premier League, making the victory an especially memorable opening day for the club. Manchester United, meanwhile, began the season away from home under manager Michael Carrick.
The fixture was scheduled for Saturday’s early lunchtime slot, giving Hull a prominent platform during the first full day of matches. Hull’s nickname, the Tigers, is widely used by supporters and broadcasters, while Manchester United are commonly called the Red Devils.
Hull’s MKM Stadium was formerly known as the KCOM Stadium. The victory should not be confused with Ipswich Town’s separate 2–1 home win over Sunderland or Arsenal’s 3–0 defeat of Coventry City.
