Ditto is the player character in Pokémon Pokopia.
Pokopia gives Ditto an unusual role within the Pokémon franchise. Rather than controlling a human trainer who catches and battles Pokémon, the player controls a Ditto that uses its transformation ability to imitate a human form. This lets the character build structures, restore environments, and help Pokémon create livable habitats.
The story begins after Ditto encounters a world in which humans are absent and the landscape has become difficult for Pokémon to inhabit. Ditto finds an old Pokédex belonging to its trainer and uses the information connected with it while taking on a human-like identity.
Ditto is sometimes mistaken for a mascot or ordinary companion in the game, but it is the central playable character. Pikachu, Eevee, Mew, and other familiar Pokémon appear in the world, yet Ditto is the one whose actions drive the restoration of Pokopia.
