The PSP Go was the PlayStation Portable model that used a sliding screen design.
Sony released the PSP Go in 2009 as a smaller, download-focused revision of the PlayStation Portable. Its display slid upward to reveal the controls, unlike the fixed-screen design used by the earlier PSP-1000, PSP-2000, and PSP-3000 models.
The PSP Go removed the original system’s UMD drive and instead relied on digitally downloaded games stored in internal memory or on Memory Stick Micro media. This made the hardware more compact but also meant that owners could not insert their existing UMD discs directly.
The device was part of the same PSP family rather than a successor generation. Its unusual sliding mechanism and digital-only game distribution are the features most clearly distinguishing it from other PSP revisions.
