Which PlayStation console was the first to use Blu-ray Disc as its game format?
Answer
PlayStation 3
Answer
PlayStation 3
The PlayStation 3 was the first PlayStation console to use Blu-ray Disc as its game format.
Sony launched the PlayStation 3 in 2006 with a Blu-ray Disc drive. The format provided substantially more storage capacity than the DVD media used by most PlayStation 2 games, giving developers more room for high-definition assets, video, and audio. The console also functioned as a Blu-ray movie player.
Later PlayStation consoles continued using Blu-ray-based media, although the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 use newer variants with different capacities. The PlayStation 3’s adoption of Blu-ray also connected the console to Sony’s wider effort to establish that format for high-definition home video.
