Which PlayStation console introduced the XrossMediaBar interface?
Answer
PlayStation Portable
Answer
PlayStation Portable
The PlayStation Portable introduced Sony’s XrossMediaBar interface.
The XrossMediaBar, commonly abbreviated XMB, organized content into horizontal categories with vertically arranged options. The PlayStation Portable used it for games, music, videos, photos, settings, and network functions. Its simple two-dimensional navigation became one of the most recognizable elements of Sony’s hardware design.
Sony later brought the interface to the PlayStation 3, where it became especially familiar to home-console users. It also appeared in products such as some Bravia televisions and Blu-ray players.
The XMB is sometimes associated primarily with the PS3 because that console used it extensively. Historically, however, the interface debuted on the PSP. The PlayStation Vita later adopted a different touch-oriented interface based on LiveArea screens.
