Which PlayStation console introduced the EyeToy camera accessory?

The story behind the answer

The PlayStation 2 introduced Sony’s EyeToy camera accessory.

EyeToy was a color digital camera designed to connect to the PlayStation 2 and detect player movement. Sony released it in 2003, initially with EyeToy: Play, a collection of games that used the camera to place the player’s image and movements into on-screen activities.

The accessory helped popularize camera-based interaction on a home console before motion-control systems became widespread. Players could wave, move, and perform gestures that the software interpreted through the camera’s image feed.

EyeToy is sometimes confused with the PlayStation 2’s later PlayStation Eye successor for PlayStation 3, or with the PlayStation Camera used by PlayStation 4. Those products belong to different console generations. The original EyeToy’s defining platform was the PlayStation 2.
