The original PlayStation introduced Sony’s DualShock analog controller as a standard bundled controller.
Sony released the DualShock controller in 1997 as a successor to the original PlayStation controller and the later Dual Analog Controller. It added two clickable analog sticks, vibration feedback, and improved handling for games designed around three-dimensional movement.
The DualShock became the standard controller bundled with later versions of the original PlayStation, including the PS one. Its four shoulder buttons and twin-stick layout established a control design that Sony continued with the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and later systems.
A common mix-up is saying that the PlayStation 2 introduced DualShock itself. The PlayStation 2 shipped with the similar DualShock 2, but that controller was an updated successor rather than the original introduction. The DualShock name and core design began during the original PlayStation era.
