Which player scored twice in the first 31 minutes of Brighton’s 4–0 win over Aston Villa in the 2026–27 opener?

The story behind the answer

Jack Hinshelwood scored twice in the first 31 minutes of Brighton’s 4–0 win over Aston Villa in the 2026–27 Premier League opener.

Brighton & Hove Albion raced into a four-goal lead before the 31st minute against Aston Villa. Hinshelwood scored two of those goals, and the double came only a few months after he had scored three times in his final five matches of the previous season.

Maxim De Cuyper scored Brighton’s other goal, while Villa defender Victor Lindelöf contributed an own goal. Aston Villa’s afternoon became even more difficult when João Gomes was sent off five minutes before half-time.

Brighton’s result was the joint fourth instance of a team scoring four first-half goals in a Premier League Matchweek 1. It was not the competition’s biggest opening-weekend win, however: Chelsea had beaten West Bromwich Albion 6–0 in 2010. Hinshelwood is the answer because he scored twice, while De Cuyper scored once and Lindelöf scored the own goal.
