Joško Gvardiol scored the winning goal in Manchester City’s 2–1 comeback against Bournemouth on the 2026–27 opening weekend.
Manchester City fell behind to Marcus Tavernier’s 26th-minute goal at the Etihad Stadium on 23 August 2026. Marc Guéhi equalised with a header six minutes from time, and Gvardiol then completed the comeback in stoppage time.
The victory began Enzo Maresca’s reign as Manchester City manager. Rayan Cherki made a major contribution from the bench, assisting both City goals after replacing Nico O’Reilly shortly after the hour mark. The win also extended Bournemouth’s unbeaten run to 18 Premier League matches before it ended.
Bournemouth had never led at the Etihad before and had never won there. City’s comeback was their latest from behind in a Premier League victory since the 2011–12 title-deciding win over Queens Park Rangers, when Sergio Agüero and Edin Džeko scored late.
