Dominik Szoboszlai scored Liverpool’s stoppage-time penalty in the 2–2 draw at Newcastle United on the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
The Hungarian midfielder converted in the ninth minute of added time to secure a point for Liverpool at St James’ Park. His penalty followed a foul on Liverpool substitute Victor Muñoz by Newcastle’s Lewis Hall.
Newcastle had taken the lead through Anthony Elanga, and Cody Gakpo equalised for Liverpool in the second half. Joe Willock then restored Newcastle’s advantage before Szoboszlai’s late spot-kick produced the final 2–2 scoreline.
A common mix-up is to attribute the penalty to Alexander Isak, who had previously played for Newcastle and was now with Liverpool. Isak did not take the decisive penalty; Szoboszlai did.
