Anton Stach scored Leeds United’s 88th-minute winner against Nottingham Forest.
Leeds defeated Nottingham Forest 1–0 at the City Ground on Saturday 22 August 2026. Stach’s decisive goal came from a free kick in the 88th minute, giving Leeds a winning start to the new Premier League campaign.
The German midfielder’s goal was especially notable because it came from outside the penalty area. It was reported as his fifth goal from outside the box since the beginning of the previous season, the highest total by any player during that span.
Leeds also began the season with consecutive opening-match victories. Forest, meanwhile, continued a poor home trend, having won only one of their previous 12 Premier League home matches. The result made Leeds one of the opening round’s away winners.
