Archie Gray captained Tottenham as the club’s youngest-ever captain in a competitive match during the 2026–27 Premier League opener.
Gray led Tottenham against Brentford on 22 August 2026, becoming the youngest player to captain the club in a competitive match. He surpassed the previous record held by Steve Perryman, a long-serving Tottenham captain and club great.
Tottenham lost the match 3–0, with Brentford scoring through Keane Lewis-Potter, Vitaly Janelt and Michael Kayode. The result overshadowed Gray’s individual record but did not change its place in the club’s history.
Gray was one of several notable Tottenham figures in the match. Sandro Tonali, Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke all made their Tottenham debuts, while Roberto De Zerbi began his first full campaign in charge.
