Which Pixar film features a colony of ants as protagonists?

The story behind the answer

The Pixar film featuring a colony of ants as protagonists is A Bug’s Life.

A Bug’s Life is Pixar’s 1998 animated film about Flik and the ant colony living on Ant Island. The ants gather food each season, but a gang of grasshoppers led by Hopper demands a large portion of their harvest as tribute. When Flik accidentally ruins the offering, he searches for help and brings a group of circus performers back to the colony, mistakenly believing they are warrior bugs.

The film’s central conflict follows the ants as they overcome fear and discover that cooperation can challenge a stronger oppressor. Flik is an inventive but accident-prone ant, while Princess Atta is preparing to become the colony’s next queen. The colony is led by the elderly Queen, making the ants the story’s principal protagonists rather than merely background creatures.

A Bug’s Life is sometimes confused with Antz, a separate 1998 computer-animated film made by DreamWorks. The Good Dinosaur and Finding Nemo also feature animal characters, but neither centers on an ant colony.
