Which pig breed is famous for its exceptionally long body and large size?

The story behind the answer

The Landrace pig breed is famous for its long body and large size.

Landrace pigs are typically white, with large, floppy ears that angle forward over the face. They were developed from European stock, with Danish Landrace becoming especially influential in modern pig breeding. The breed was selected for useful production traits, including length, leanness, prolificacy, and strong maternal performance.

Because Landrace genetics are widely used in crossbreeding, the name can refer both to specific national strains and to related Landrace populations developed in different countries. Their long backs provide additional space for valuable loin meat.

Landrace is not the same as the term “landrace,” which can describe a locally adapted population of plants or animals more generally. Berkshire, Hampshire, and Tamworth are separate pig breeds with different color patterns and histories.
