Which domestic rabbit breed is recognized as the largest rabbit breed?
Answer
Flemish Giant
Answer
Flemish Giant
The Flemish Giant is a domestic rabbit breed recognized for its exceptionally large size.
The breed developed in the Flanders region, historically associated with parts of present-day Belgium. Early large rabbits were bred for meat and fur, and the Flemish Giant later became popular as a show animal and companion. Its body is long and powerful, with large ears and substantial bone structure.
Breed standards commonly require mature Flemish Giants to weigh at least about 6.35 kilograms, or 14 pounds, although individual rabbits can be heavier. They may appear in several recognized colors, including black, blue, fawn, light gray, steel gray, and white. Size alone does not identify every giant rabbit, because other breeds and crosses can also become very large.
The Flemish Giant is sometimes confused with the Continental Giant, a rabbit type developed from large European stock. Names and standards can differ between rabbit organizations, but Flemish Giant is the established breed name associated with this historic large rabbit.
