Which goat breed is famous for long, pendulous ears and a Roman nose?
Answer
Nubian goat
Answer
Nubian goat
The Nubian goat, commonly called the Anglo-Nubian, is famous for long, pendulous ears and a Roman nose.
Anglo-Nubian goats were developed in Britain by crossing British goats with goats from Africa, India, and the eastern Mediterranean. Their most recognizable features are long ears that hang close to the head and a convex facial profile often called a Roman nose. They may have many coat colors and patterns, so color alone is not a reliable identification feature.
The breed is valued as a dairy goat, especially for milk with relatively high butterfat. It is also known for a longer breeding season than many traditional British dairy breeds, which can be useful in managed production. Anglo-Nubians are generally larger and more substantial than Nigerian Dwarf goats.
The name Nubian is sometimes used broadly for related-looking goats, but Anglo-Nubian is the formal breed name commonly used in British breed history. LaMancha goats are another dairy breed, yet their very short external ears make them easy to distinguish.
