Which peninsula is home to Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point near Cape Town?
Answer
Cape Peninsula
Answer
Cape Peninsula
The Cape Peninsula is home to Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point near Cape Town.
This mountainous peninsula extends southward from Cape Town into the Atlantic Ocean. Its northern end includes Table Mountain, while its southern end contains the Cape of Good Hope section of Table Mountain National Park. Cape Point is a prominent headland within that protected area.
A common mistake is to say that Cape Point is the southernmost point of Africa or that it marks the meeting of the Atlantic and Indian oceans. Africa’s southernmost point is Cape Agulhas, farther east, and ocean boundaries in the region are defined by broader geographic conventions rather than a single visible line.
The peninsula is internationally important for its biodiversity. Its vegetation is dominated by fynbos, part of the Cape Floristic Region, one of the world’s major plant-diversity hotspots.
