Which peninsula includes Spain and Portugal and is separated from France by the Pyrenees?
Answer
Iberian Peninsula
Answer
Iberian Peninsula
The Iberian Peninsula includes Spain and Portugal and is separated from France by the Pyrenees.
Located in southwestern Europe, the Iberian Peninsula is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the Bay of Biscay, and the Mediterranean Sea. Spain occupies most of its area, while Portugal covers the western portion. Andorra and the British overseas territory of Gibraltar are also located on the peninsula.
The Pyrenees form a major mountain barrier along much of the northeastern boundary with France. The range reaches its highest point at Aneto, which rises to 3,404 metres in the Spanish Pyrenees.
“Iberia” is an ancient geographical name, and the peninsula has hosted many cultures, including Phoenician, Roman, Islamic and Christian kingdoms. It should not be confused with the Iberian Peninsula’s political countries: the landform includes more than Spain and Portugal alone.
