Which peninsula includes Norway and Sweden?

The story behind the answer

The Scandinavian Peninsula includes Norway and Sweden.

It is one of Europe's largest peninsulas, extending northward between the North Atlantic Ocean, the Norwegian Sea, the Barents Sea and the Baltic Sea. Norway occupies the western side, while Sweden lies mainly on the eastern side. A small part of northwestern Finland is also geographically within the peninsula.

The Scandinavian Mountains run along much of the border between Norway and Sweden. Norway's deeply indented coastline contains many fjords, while Sweden has broad forests, lakes and a comparatively lower eastern landscape. The peninsula is connected to mainland Europe through Finland and the far north of Russia.

The geographic term should not be confused with “Scandinavia” as a cultural region. In ordinary usage, Scandinavia usually refers to Denmark, Norway and Sweden, although Finland and Iceland are often included in the wider Nordic region.
