Which peninsula includes Greece and most of Albania and Bulgaria?
Answer
Balkan Peninsula
Answer
Balkan Peninsula
The Balkan Peninsula includes Greece and most of Albania and Bulgaria.
It occupies southeastern Europe and is surrounded by the Adriatic, Ionian, Aegean, and Black seas, with the Sea of Marmara often included in descriptions of its eastern maritime setting. Its exact northern boundary is debated, because the transition from the peninsula to the rest of Europe is not marked by a single universally accepted physical line.
The region commonly includes Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Slovenia, along with parts of Romania and Turkey. Different political and cultural definitions can include or exclude neighboring areas.
The Balkans are known for exceptional linguistic, religious, and historical diversity. The Byzantine and Ottoman Empires shaped large parts of the region, while the Balkan Wars of 1912–1913 changed its political map shortly before the First World War.
