Which peninsula in northeastern Canada contains Baffin Island’s Auyuittuq National Park?

The story behind the answer

Canada’s Cumberland Peninsula contains Auyuittuq National Park on Baffin Island.

The Cumberland Peninsula occupies the southeastern part of Baffin Island in Nunavut. It is a dramatic Arctic landscape of fjords, glaciers, granite peaks, and deep valleys. Auyuittuq National Park, whose Inuktitut name means “the land that never melts,” protects much of its mountainous interior.

The park includes the Penny Ice Cap and famous routes such as the Akshayuk Pass. Mount Asgard, a flat-topped peak in the park, is one of the peninsula’s best-known landmarks. The community of Pangnirtung lies near the peninsula’s eastern side and is a gateway for visitors.

Cumberland Peninsula should not be confused with the much larger Labrador Peninsula, which covers Labrador and much of Quebec. Both are in northeastern Canada, but Cumberland is a subregion of Baffin Island rather than a mainland landform.
