Which peninsula contains the countries of Norway and Sweden and is Europe’s largest peninsula?
Answer
Scandinavian Peninsula
Answer
Scandinavian Peninsula
The Scandinavian Peninsula contains Norway and Sweden and is Europe’s largest peninsula.
It extends northward from mainland Europe between the Norwegian Sea, the North Sea, the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Bothnia. Norway occupies the western side, while Sweden covers most of the eastern side; a small part of northwestern Finland is also geographically included.
The Scandinavian Mountains run along much of the peninsula and help explain the contrast between Norway’s deeply indented western coast and Sweden’s broader eastern lowlands. Glaciers carved Norway’s famous fjords during successive ice ages.
The Scandinavian Peninsula is not identical to Scandinavia in every definition. Scandinavia commonly means Norway, Sweden and Denmark as a cultural-historical region, but Denmark is not physically located on this peninsula.
