Which peninsula contains Olympic National Park in Washington State?
Answer
Olympic Peninsula
Answer
Olympic Peninsula
The Olympic Peninsula contains Olympic National Park in Washington State.
The peninsula occupies the northwestern corner of Washington and is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and Puget Sound. The Olympic Mountains rise near its center, while the city of Port Angeles sits on the northern coast. Water separates the peninsula from Seattle and much of the rest of western Washington.
Olympic National Park protects a remarkable combination of ecosystems, including glacier-covered mountains, temperate rainforests, and a rugged Pacific coastline. The park was established in 1938 and later became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981.
The peninsula is famous for the Hoh Rain Forest, one of the wettest areas in the contiguous United States. Its isolation and varied elevations support species such as Roosevelt elk and several endemic or regionally distinctive plants and animals.
