Para shooting uses a 10-metre distance for its standard air-rifle event.
The 10-metre air-rifle competition is one of the precision events in Paralympic shooting, which is governed internationally by World Shooting Para Sport. Athletes compete from standing or seated positions, depending on their impairment and classification. Equipment and range procedures are adapted where necessary while preserving the central challenge of accuracy.
Paralympic shooting also includes 25-metre and 50-metre events. Air-pistol and air-rifle competitions use compressed air or gas and are distinct from the firearm events conducted at longer distances. Athletes with visual impairments do not compete in the standard Paralympic shooting programme.
The sport was included at the Toronto 1976 Paralympic Games. It is sometimes called para sport shooting, but “shooting” remains the official sport name used in the Paralympic programme.
