Which original Avery Johnson voice actor retired in 2013?
Answer
David Scully
Answer
David Scully
The original Avery Johnson voice actor who retired in 2013 was David Scully.
Scully voiced Avery Junior Johnson, the Marine sergeant major who leads human forces across much of the Halo series. He performed Johnson in the original Halo: Combat Evolved and continued through later Bungie-era games, including Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo: Reach.
Johnson is one of Halo’s most recognizable supporting characters. He survives the destruction of Installation 04, returns in Halo 2 and Halo 3, and also appears in expanded-universe stories such as Halo: First Strike and Halo: Contact Harvest. His cigar-chomping bravado and distinctive delivery helped define the character.
A common mix-up is confusing Scully with Keston John, who voices Johnson in Halo: Campaign Evolved. Ron Perlman and Keith David are also prominent game voice actors, but neither is Johnson’s original Halo performer. The 2013 date refers to Scully’s retirement from voice acting, not Johnson’s disappearance from the franchise.
