Which studio ported Halo: Combat Evolved to Windows?
Answer
Gearbox Software
Answer
Gearbox Software
Gearbox Software ported Halo: Combat Evolved to Windows.
The Windows version was not simply an Xbox release running on a computer. Gearbox adapted Bungie’s game for PC hardware, keyboard-and-mouse controls, online multiplayer, and the wider range of configurations found on Windows systems.
Microsoft announced the port’s development on July 12, 2002. It launched on September 30, 2003, nearly two years after the Xbox original. The PC edition added online multiplayer support and sharper graphics, although early players and reviewers criticized its uneven performance and optimization.
Gearbox also produced Halo: Custom Edition, released in 2004. That separate multiplayer-focused release allowed players to use custom maps and modifications through Bungie’s Halo Editing Kit. The Mac version is often confused with the Windows port: Westlake Interactive handled the Mac OS X conversion, while MacSoft published it.
