MacSoft published the Mac OS X version of Halo: Combat Evolved.
The Macintosh edition arrived on December 11, 2003, several months after Gearbox Software’s Windows port. MacSoft was known for bringing games to Apple platforms, and its release helped make Halo available to Mac players during the era when the franchise was strongly associated with Xbox.
Westlake Interactive handled the actual Mac OS X port, while MacSoft served as publisher. That division explains a frequent quiz mistake: Westlake is the developer of the conversion, but MacSoft is the company credited with publishing it.
The Mac version supported online multiplayer for up to 16 players and included maps not present in the original Xbox release. Like the Windows edition, however, it did not retain the Xbox campaign’s cooperative mode because adapting that feature required substantial recoding.
