Answer
Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament
Glastonbury partnered with the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, or CND, in 1981.
Michael Eavis took back sole control of the festival that year, and the event was organised in conjunction with CND. It became known as the Glastonbury CND Festival, linking the music gathering with opposition to nuclear weapons during a period of heightened Cold War tension. The partnership also gave the festival a clearer political and campaigning identity.
The 1981 event drew 18,000 paying attendees, who bought tickets for £8. A new Pyramid Stage was built from telegraph poles and metal sheeting, including materials repurposed from the Ministry of Defence. It was designed as a permanent structure that could double as a hay barn and cowshed during the winter. Oxfam and Greenpeace later became prominent Glastonbury charity partners, which can cause confusion, but the organisation specifically associated with the 1981 partnership was CND.
