The online gaming platform startup founded by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel was Roblox.
Baszucki and Cassel founded the company behind Roblox in 2004 after working together at Knowledge Revolution, an educational software business known for physics simulations. Their early concept combined a physics sandbox, social interaction and tools that would let users create their own experiences. The project was initially called DynaBlocks before being renamed Roblox in 2005.
Roblox officially launched on September 1, 2006. It is often mistaken for a single game, but Roblox is primarily a platform: users can create, publish and play experiences made with Roblox’s development tools. That distinguishes it from Fortnite and Minecraft, which are best known as individual game franchises, although both also contain creator or user-generated elements.
