Which social media management startup was founded by Ryan Holmes?
Answer
Hootsuite
Answer
Hootsuite
Hootsuite was founded by Ryan Holmes.
Holmes developed the service in 2008 while running Invoke Media, a Vancouver digital-services agency. He and colleagues needed a way to manage multiple social-network accounts, so they built an internal dashboard rather than finding an existing product that met their needs. The first version, called BrightKit, launched on November 28, 2008, as a Twitter dashboard.
The platform was renamed Hootsuite in 2009 after a crowdsourcing contest involving its users. The name was inspired by Owly, the owl in its logo, and the French expression “tout de suite,” meaning “right now.” Dario Meli and David Tedman were also important co-founders, so the question’s wording highlights Holmes rather than claiming he worked alone. Hootsuite spun out of Invoke Media in December 2009 and expanded from Twitter to Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, and TikTok. It is distinct from Later, Sprout Social, and Buffer, which are competing social-media management platforms.
